Story Behind: unblockmeparis.io (& Why It’s an Ethereum NFT)

Back in 2009 Paris Hilton blocked me (dontfeedthewolf.eth )on twitter for a distasteful tweet, which said more about my adolescent behavior and overall dark sense of humor than it should about Paris Hilton and/or Britney. The tweet, which was definitely flagged and not archived (I’ve done my best to try and dig it up) said something along the lines of:

“You’re <@Paris Hilton> my favorite white trash celebrity next to Britney <Spears>.”

Now even though my intent was a backhanded compliment and poor taste in humor, that doesn’t dismiss any offense that could be taken from it and to anyone I’ve offended, I truly am sorry. Truthfully I am a fan of Britney Spears, notably her music and in particularly her Toxic album. I am also a fan of Paris Hilton and her ability to establish a brand/garner media attention, as well as being ‘early’ to both the ‘underground’ EDM movement (which I worked in at the time) and now NFTs (which I currently work in).

So fast-forward to earlier this year when @melabeeofficial shared that she was being followed by @parishilton and I decided to share being blocked by Paris. It was a passing moment in Twitter Spaces, during conversations I didn’t put much weight on, when Mela announced she had made an apology song to Paris, for me. The song was shared, laughs were had, and I expressed interest in minting it, so I could pay Mela for her work as well as have a copy for myself and give to Paris Hilton.

With enough interest in the song and support from a developer, it was decided to make it into a mini collection with a smart contract and website. The visual art was inspired by Paris’ $11.11 NFT: My Forever Fairytale which kind of makes this into the first official Paris Hilton derivative.

The goal of the release was always to get me (dontfeedthewolf.eth )unblocked by Paris Hilton or at the very least for her to notice it. Ethereum was chosen over Polygon so we could mint it directly into her wallet without being sent to the hidden folder on Opensea. An ERC-1155 token was picked to share likes on the asset and increase visibility. The price and supply are a nod to 420 and Mela cleverly picked the 17th as the release date since it is Paris Hilton’s Birthday.

For Transparency: I was not paid to do or endorse this project, nor am I receiving any proceeds from this collection. All of the profits will go towards the creation of Mela’s future NFT project, which is aimed towards her becoming a fully independent web3 music artist. One copy was minted directly to Paris Hilton’s wallet and I myself paid for and minted two, one to give to the visual artist and one to keep for myself.
